The pensioners in the Transnistrian region who still work could be freed from the obligation to pay the social insurance contribution. An initiative to this effect was put forward by the Transnistrian leader Yevgheny Shevchuk, who is running for a new term in office, IPN reports.

In an interview for the channel Pervyi Pridnestrovskii (First Transnistrian), Shevchuk said that now many pensioners in the Transnistrian region continue to work and pay a contribution of 3% into the Social Insurance Fund. From his viewpoint, this is not right as these persons contributed already to the fund before retirement.

Yevgheny Shevchuk noted that he has a number of legislative initiatives and the supreme soviet, which is the local legislative body, is obliged to examine these within 14 days. He insists that these initiatives should take effect before the so-called presidential elections that will take place in Transnistria this December.
