Sheriff Tiraspol officials have confirmed that the team will not take part in the Commonwealth of Independent States Cup, which will take place in January in St. Petersburg, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Moldovan champions are participating in Europa League and the last scheduled fixture is on December 15. For that reason, the team won’t have enough time to prepare for the CIS Cup. According to the rules, Sheriff are supposed to be replaced by Iskra-Stal Rybnitsa, which were the runners-up last year. However, they are yet to confirm their participation. A similar situation occurred last season, when Dacia Chisinau played in the CIS Cup. The capital club failed to progress from the group stage. Sheriff have some pedigree in the competition as they won the CIS Cup in 2003 and 2009. Another Moldovan club, Zimbru Chisinau, reached the final in 2000.
