Sheriff Tiraspol became Moldova’s football champion for the 15th time. The team trained by Italian coach Roberto Bordin has won the title as a result of the penalty shootout after the ‘golden match’ played against Dacia Chisinau at the Zimbru Stadium, IPN reports.

The scoreline after the normal period of the game was 1-1. The goals were scored by 18-year-old striker Vitalie Damascan of Sheriff (37th minute) and Dacia fullback Veaceslav Posmac (73rd). The penalty shootout ended by 3-0.

“It is great joy for Sheriff. This season we also won Moldova’s Cup,” Sheriff coach Roberto Bordin told a news conference.

For the second consecutive year, Moldova’s champion was decided in a ‘golden match’ as the two teams had the same score before the game.

The next season, Sheriff will represent Moldova in the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Champions League. Dacia won silver and will compete in the qualifying competition of the UEFA Europa League.
