Sheriff Tiraspol became the new holder of Moldova’s Super Cup after beating FC Tiraspol 2-0, IPN reports. The winners scored by a goal in every half through Bulgarian striker Ismail Isa and halfback Benjamen Balima from Burkina Faso.
This is the fifth Moldova’s Super Cup won by Sheriff besides those won in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2007. “We managed to achieve everything we planned and to win a new trophy,” said Sheriff coach Vitaliy Rashkevich.
“We were in control of the ball, but Sheriff managed to profit from the few occasions it had and scored two goals. They deserved to win,” said FC Tiraspol coach Vlad Goian.
The Super Cup was the last test before the start of the European Cups. Sheriff will play the first leg march of the Champions League qualifiers against Sutjeska Muntenegru on its own field on July 15. FC Tiraspol will meet the holder of Latvia’s Cup Skonto Riga in the Europa League qualifiers on July 4, also at home.
