Sheriff beat Albania’s champion Kukesi 1-0 in the first-leg match of the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. The only goal of the game played in Tiraspol was scored by Ziguy Badibanga in the 79th minute from a penalty kick, IPN reports.
“We could have scored more goals as we had enough important chances. In the return game, we must have a similar play,” Sheriff coach Roberto Bordin told a news conference.
“I’m not disappointed. The team played well. It’s a pity that the penalty was awarded. We will force the qualification in Albania,” stated the coach of Kukesi Ernest Gjoka.
Sheriff had the following players on the field: Miculic, Jardan (Badibanga 70th minute) Racu, De Nooyer (Bordian 90th+4), Mugosa (Damașcan, 83rd), Cristiano Da Silva, Anton, Bayala, Brezovec, Susic, Posmac. The return match was scheduled for July 19.
