Sheriff Tiraspol defeated HŠK Zrinjski Mostar of Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-0. The team trained by Croatian coach Stjepan Tomas has reached the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, IPN reports, with reference to the Moldovan Football Federation.
Igor Savic of HŠK Zrinjski Mostar opened the score in the 22nd minute with an own goal. By two footballers from both of the teams were shown yellow cards.
Moldova’s champion will now meet the winner of the encounter between Maribor of Slovenia and Shakhtyor Soligorsk of Belarus. The first leg will be played away on July 19/20, while the return game will take place in Chisinau in a week.
The return game against Zrinjski Bosnia and Herzegovina of the first qualifying round was played at the Zimbru Stadium in Chisinau on July 12. Earlier, the UEFA Executive Committee decided that Tiraspol city could not host matches of the UEFA competition in light of the large-scale military escalation resulting in the invasion of the Ukrainian territory by the Russian army. At end-June, it was ascertained that the Chisinau arena meets the UEFA standards for interclub competitions.
