Moldova’s champion Sheriff Tiraspol meets the Azeri team Qarabag in the return match of the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League in the evening of August 1. The first leg played in Baku ended by 0-0.
If Sheriff manages to eliminate Qarabag, it will compete in the playoff round of the Champions League and will secure at least participation in the groups of the UEFA Europa League. In case of a defeat, the team from Tiraspol will compete in the playoffs of the Europa League, where it could meet a worthy opponent.
“We should be attentive and play at least as well as in Baku. We must obtain a positive result, especially because we have the advantage of playing at home,” said the coach of Sheriff Roberto Bordin.
Before the second leg against Qarabag, Sheriff signed Croatian fullback Ante Kulusic, who played in the championship of Turkey for Genclerbirligi.
The encounter between Sheriff and Qarabag will be played this evening in Tiraspol starting at 8pm. The match will be controlled by a team of referees from Israel led by Roу Reinshreiber.
