Sheriff drew the first-leg match against Qarabag of the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. The match played in Baku ended by 0-0, IPN reports.

Petru Racu missed a good chance of scoring in the last minute of the first half. After the break, the Azeri team stepped up the offense, with goalkeeper Zvonimir Mikulic showing a very good performance.

“Our objective here was to defend ourselves well and to focus on counterattack,” Sheriff coach Roberto Bordin told a news conference.

“We will go to score in Tiraspol. It won’t be easy as Sheriff is a good team,” stated the coach of Qarabag Gurban Gurbanov.

Sheriff and Qarabag play the return match in Tiraspol on August 1. The team that will win will qualify for the playoff round of the UEFA Champions League, while the team that will lose will reach the playoff round of the UEFA Europa League.
