Sheriff Tiraspol managed to hold Dinamo Zagreb to a 0-0 draw Wednesday and win 3-0 on aggregate to become Moldova’s first club ever to advance to the Champions League group stage, IPN reports.
The win secures at least 17 million euros in prize money for Sheriff and the opportunity to host one of Europe’s best teams at Tiraspol. The group-stage draw will be held this evening in Istanbul.
Sheriff manager Yuri Vernydub used the following lineup for the Zagreb game: Athanasiadis, Cristiano, Arboleda, Dulanto, Constanza, Thill, Kolovos (Petro 74), Addo, Luvannor (Radeljic 88), Traore, Castaneda (Yansane 58).
“After winning 3-0 at Tiraspol, the Dinamo manager said they wouldn’t even need the penalty shootout and would defeat us within full-time. I couldn’t have invented a better motivation myself for my side after such words”, said Yuri Vernydub.
The following clubs qualified into the Champions League group stage: Atletico, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla, Villarreal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Atalanta, Juventus, Bayern, Leipzig, Dortmund, Wolfsburg, Sporting, Porto, Benfica, Lille, PSG, Dynamo Kyiv, Shakhtar, Ajax, Zenit, Club Brugge, Beşiktaş, Young Boys, Malmo, Salzburg, and Sheriff.
