Shell found in border zone

An object resembling an artillery shell, possibly dating from World War II, was discovered during a state border surveillance mission by a Border Police patrol in Cuconeştii Noi village of Edinet district, IPN reports.

The shell was 50 centimeters long and about 30 centimeters in diameter. The 112 service was immediately alerted to send a team of Bombteh specialists and bomb disposal engineers.

The Border Police said that, until the arrival of the specialized teams and during the examinations, the perimeter was secured and the people were evacuated from the area.

The shell was safely detonated on a specialized shooting range.

The Border Police call on the population to be very careful and to inform the competent authorities in case of discovery of shells or other types of ammunition.
