The sheep and goat breeders meet with difficulties in obtaining feedstuff for animals. The access to forests is banned, while the local authorities refuse to lease out pastures. The problems were communicated by representatives of associations of sheep and goat breeders in a meeting with Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Eduard Grama, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry’s press service, among the enumerated problems are the access to pastures and pasturing in forests, vaccination of animals and sale of products (skin, wool, meat and cheese). The representatives of the National Food Safety Agency explained how the animals must be vaccinated, noting that the presence of a veterinarian responsible for the health of sheep and goats is mandatory.

The payment of taxes and fiscal reporting were also discussed in the meeting. Eduard Grama urged the sheep and goat breeders to make approaches to the institutions in charge and inform them about the faced problems. “The Ministry is ready to offer consultancy. Many of the problems you experience can be solved within the association by combining forces for a common goal,” stated the minister.

Statistics for the last few years show that both the sheep and goats bred at farms grew in number. There are now 21 sheep farms and three goat farms.
