The unionist movement “Sfatul Tarii 2” (“People’s Council 2”) will support the candidate of the National Unity Party Constantin Codreanu in the new local mayoral elections that will take place in Chisinau on May 20 and urges the voters to also support this candidate. The movement continues to plead for the unification of all the anti-Socialist, pro-European, unionist, center and center-right forces so as to prevent a representative of the pro-Kremlin, antinational and revanchist forces from being elected mayor. In a news conference at IPN, representatives of “Sfatul Tarii 2” presented a relevant declaration of the movement’s Board.
“In the very delicate context of the participation by representatives of pro-European and unionist parties in elections, the movement “Sfatul Tarii 2” calls on these not to attack each other and to cooperate in designating a common candidate for mayor of Chisinau until it is not too late,” the movement’s president Nicolae Dabija said, reading the declaration.
According to him, in the April 25 meeting, by a majority of votes, the Board decided to support Constantin Codreanu in the mayoral elections as the representative of the unionist current. This candidate, who is the youngest of all the candidates for mayor, with Romania’s support could transform Chisinau into a really European capital city of which each citizen would be proud.
Board member Mihai Patras said the legislation on election holding should be adjusted as the organization of elections too often is a big mistake by which several million lei is wasted. The post of mayor of Chisinau municipality implies big responsibility and hard work and some of the election runners do not realize this. These candidates should withdraw in favor of the candidate with real chances.
“The view of these young people who studied in Europe and have solid knowledge is different. They come to change something in the life of our people not only for themselves or for friends, but for everyone,” said actress Ninela Caranfil, a member of the Board. According to her, Constantin Codreanu, who represents the unionist segment, is the best candidate for mayor of Chisinau. This has capacities and was elected member of Romania’s Parliament and deserves to head a capital city as he has professional training and scruples.
