The teams of SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” in the first half of 2016 dealt with almost 4,000 cases of blockages in sewer pipes, an increase of about 19% compared with the corresponding period last year. In most of the cases, the pipes became blocked owing to the irresponsibility of dwellers who throw different objects into the sewerage system, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the public utility.

While performing works to unblock the sewer pipes, the company’s employees found solid or sharp objects, cosmetic or personal hygiene products, household waste and such building materials as concrete and sand and other waste in pipes.

To improve the service in this sector, about 15 km of sewer pipes are to be rehabilitated within the Priority Investment Program financed by the EBRD and EIB. Five hydrodynamic installations are used to wash the sewerage system. These enable the company’s specialists to swiftly deal with the problems, including in inaccessible sectors, diminishing intervention costs.
