The International Labor Day was celebrated today, May 1, in Chisinau by the supporters of the Communist regime with marches on the main streets of the city and a demonstration in the Great National Assembly Square that was attended by more than 10,000 people, according to the organizers, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Four columns of people went on a march from the Circus, the Teacher Training University “Ion Creanga”, the memorial complex “Eternity” and the Academy of Sciences towards the central square. The marchers with red and white flags chanted “Hurrah” and anti-government slogans.
When in the square, the demonstrators expressed their indignation that the place was surrounded by a protection fence and tried to take it down. Communist MP Iurie Muntean, who led one of the columns, urged the crowd not to touch the fence as it was “a shame for Prime Minister Vlad Filat and Minister of the Interior Victor Catan”.
Former head of state Vladimir Voronin also came to the demonstration. The Communist leader wore a red tie and the Saint Gheorghe ribbon at the chest. He shook hands with a number of pensioners, wishing them good health.
The former Deputy Prime Minister, Communist MP Igor Dodon said the government does not have mercy on the people, demanding that the governors resign.
Anatol Gorila, the deputy head of the Border Guard Service, said the situation in the country has worsened after the liberal-democratic forces came to power.
Communist MP Eduard Musc stressed that the charges increased several times during the last year. “The present administration raised the prices of all the services and the social situation became worse. The people are not satisfied with the way the Alliance for European Integration governs,” he said.
The demonstration of the supporters of the Communist regime lasted for about two hours.
