The Communists gathered several thousand supporters from the country’s districts in the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau. They voted a statement by which they accuse the government of betrayal and seek its dismissal, saying they didn’t authorize it to sign anything with the European Unison, IPN reports.
The leader of the Communist Party Vladimir Voronin said before the crowd that they were summoned not to be asked to give their votes in the next legislative elections, but to express their disagreement with the policies pursued by the government. “They are not able to create decent or at least minimum living conditions for the people. They separate the families, close schools and hospitals and condemn the elderly people to famine. The government represents the mafia, which took us back to the 1990s. They do not obey the Constitution and intend to sign something secret in Parliament. We are convinced that Moldova will have a prosperous future if it joins the Russia – Belarus – Kazakhstan Customs Union,” he stated.
Communist MP Mark Tkackuk said that by this event they began the procedure for dismissing the government by peaceful methods. “Today we declare that we didn’t authorize them to sign anything in our name. If they sign something, this will be state betrayal and usurpation of the power,” he said. MP Constantin Staris stated that they cannot speak about freedom in Moldova as the power closed the only TV channel of the opposition and appropriated the others. “Our children will not forgive us if we do not fight until we remove the government,” he added.
A group of Communist MPs were mandated to transmit to Prime Minister Iurie Leanca the document by which they ask him to resign. The Premier’s spokeswoman Liliana Vitu Esanu said that Iurie Leanca does not see reasons for resigning. Immediately after the Vilnius Eastern Partnership Summit, he and his colleagues can explain the benefits of the association with the EU and can answer Communists’ questions.
The organizers of the Communist march said the event involved several tens of thousands of people. The police said there were more than 15,000 people in the Great National Assembly Square. According to the media, the protesters were mainly elderly people. There were persons who drank alcohol in the crown.
The Liberal Democratic Party also reserved the central square of Chisinau for November 23, for a meeting with sympathizers. The party issued a communiqué, saying they decided not to hold the event this day in order to avoid possible tensions between the members and sympathizers of the Liberal-Democrats and those of the Communists. The PLDM said that by its acts the PCRM violated the legislation.
