The Social Liberal Party (PSL), as well as other centre-right parties will stage a protest on June 4 to request that the June 3 local general elections be recognised as null and void, and will plead for early parliamentary elections, PSL leader Oleg Serebrain told a news conference held at Info-Prim Neo. He said he discussed with several political leaders in this respect, without naming them. According to him, more details will be offered on Thursday, when a meeting with the EU ambassadors is planned, after which they will issue a joint press statement. Serebrian argued this action by the massive violations which take place during the election campaign, as well as by the justified concerns that the ruling party and its representatives in the local public administration will commit acts of fraud on election day. In this context, the social-liberal leader mentioned about the harassment of the opposition candidates, including of the PSL, especially in Briceni and Ocnita raions, where the opposition candidates are forced to quit the run, fact which makes impossible the organisation of a election campaign. It will be requested to postpone elections in these raions till June 17. Serebrain said that the recently published report of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights revealed numerous irregularities. Also, according to the PSL leader, the constitutionality of the present regime is more and more doubtful, and the gross violations make the party lose its legitimacy. The cited source emphasises that in case these elections will not be held in an appropriate way, this regime will become morally compromised and will lack any support from the international community. Serebrian has called attention to several lacunas found in the Election Code and the need for amending the Code after the campaign.
