Several demonstrations requests were forwarded for August 27 and 31

On Friday, August 18, the authorities of the City Hall accepted 7 requests to carry out demonstrations in Chisinau. The non-governmental organization “Hyde Park” has requested authorization for 3 demonstrations. This organization plans to carry out protests in front of the Romanian Embassy on August 27 and will demand to speedup the process of issuance of Romanian citizenship; on August 31 they will rally at the Classics Alley from “Stefan cel Mare” park to support the freedom of speech, and on September 3 they will have a demonstration at the Ministry of Defense against mandatory military service. Also the Association for the abolition of the consequences of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact from Moldova has requested permission for a demonstration on August 24 in front of Stefan the Great monument and will protest in front of the Russian Embassy to Chisinau. Furthermore, “Intersport” athletic club has requested permission to arrange for a traditional run on the territory of the Botanical Garden on August 27. The authorities from the City Hall have also received a request from “Amnesty International Moldova”. They plan to collect signatures in the “Stefan the Great” public garden on the August 31 in support of ill-treated women. The requests are due to be further authorized by the interim Mayor of Chisinau, Vasile Ursu. The workgroup for the preliminary examination of demonstration requests has been created through a disposal of the Mayoralty, dating back to 2004, which sets the norms for request handling. The group is formed of a vice-mayor, members from the law enforcement bodies, from the city’s Center of Preventive Medicine, Sanitation Management an other members.
