The seventh contingent of the National Army on June 5 leaves for Kosovo to take part in the peacekeeping operation there, IPN reports.

The Moldovan service members will be deployed at the multinational base Camp Vilaggio Italia in Pech village of Kosovo. Italy’s Ambassador in Chisinau Valeria Biagiotti, in the deployment ceremony on June 2, said the sending of a new contingent to Kosovo shows that Moldova wants to be present and active at international level.

Deputy Minister of Defense Gheorghe Galbura expressed his gratitude for the trust put in the almost 250 National Army officers and subofficers who took part in the Kosovo Force operation so far. “We could show that the armed forces have peacekeeping potential that is now realized not only in Kosovo, but also in other missions where the Army of the Republic of Moldova is present alongside the armies of other states, contributing to global security,” stated the official.

The seventh contingent consists of 41 professional service members, namely a general staff chief, seven bomb squad members and a platoon of 33 soldiers whom will guard and protect military facilities and will carry out patrolling duties. These will work in Kosovo for six months.
