A Euroclub for discussions and activities centering on the European Union was inaugurated at the Teacher Training College “Alexei Mateevici” in Chisinau on October 10. This is the seventh Euroclub opened with the support of the EU Delegation to Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. Attending the opening, Political Officer of the EU Delegation to Moldova Dirk Lorenz said the participation in such activities helps the Moldovan young people to better know the European Union. “I hope that more and more young people will join this Euroclub. I think it is an opportunity for the members to meet more often with persons with whom they share the same ideas. Such Euroclubs have a greater importance now that Moldova comes closer to the EU,” said Dirk Lorenz. He also spoke about the talks on the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU and its importance for every citizen apart. “We want to avoid holding negotiations only at governmental level. We want the people to become involved too. We want to develop more programs for the Moldovans. The EU is more than cooperation and assistance. It is a community of values,” he stated. The Euroclubs are civic initiatives that aim to engage the young people in European activities. Any young person with initiative can become a Euroclub member. The young people will take part in training seminars and sessions focusing on European issues. The first Euroclub in Moldova was opened at “Ion Creanga” High School in 2010.
