As a result, more than 20,000 people will be able to benefit from household waste collection services. The agreement was signed within a common integrated local development program, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the program, the services will be provided on the bases of individual contracts signed by the people with the waste collection company. The mayors will urge the villagers to sign contracts. The service costs 8 lei a month per person.

“This agreement will enable to obtain what the people expect from us – services of a high quality and a cleaner village,” the mayor of Ratus village of Telenesti Tudor Turcanu said during the signing ceremony.

By the end of 2015, the common integrated local development program aims to implement ten intercommunity cooperation projects in a number of districts of Moldova.

The program is coordinated by the State Chancellery and implemented by United Nations Development Program and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, with financial support from the Governments of Denmark and Sweden, which contributed over US$7 million.
