The 55 serious road accidents that happened in Moldova during December 25 – January 3 resulted in seven deaths, IPN reports.
Pavel Apostol, head of the Road Accidents Monitoring and Analysis Section, in a press briefing on January 6 said most of the traffic accidents, including those that involved pedestrians, were due to the non-giving of way or jaywalking.
Before the public holidays, the police reiterate the call to motorists not to drive under the influence and to maintain distance between vehicles. The pedestrians are urged to wear clothes of bright colors when they intend to cross the street so as to be noticed by drivers.
