Seven Moldovan trucks conveying goods are now at the Moghiliov-Podolsk border crossing point in Ukraine, waiting to enter Moldova through Otaci. “There were 45 trucks parked in special parking places near the customs post. As from February 24, when the hostilities in Ukraine started, most of the 45 trucks have crossed the border to the Republic of Moldova,” adviser to the minister of infrastructure and regional development Alina Merlici has told IPN.
Alina Merlici said that more trucks can yet joint the seven trucks. The trucks carrying goods from Russia were diverted to other corridors. “We are updating the information about the new corridors and this is available on the Ministry’s website. We inform what countries allow their territory to be crossed by trucks with goods heading for the Republic of Moldova,” stated the adviser. By now, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Hungary and other states allowed trucks of Moldovan companies to cross their territory.
As to social media reports about shortages faced by Moldovan truck drivers on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border, Alina Merlici said the Ministry it monitoring the situation. It keeps in touch with freight companies with authorizations from the National Road Transport Agency. “We weren’t asked to take food or something else to truck drivers. Representatives of firms said there is no need as there are eateries and shops near the given border crossing point,” stated Alina Merlici, noting the Moldovan drivers who need something should write directly to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development.
