New local elections for mayor will be held on Sunday in seven localities across the country. For this purpose, 15 polling stations have been set up, which will be open from 7:00 to 21:00, IPN reports.

The seven localities are: the town of Causeni in Causeni district, the commune of Iliciovca in Florești district, the commune of Boscana in Criuleni district, the village of Arionești in Donduseni district, the commune of Antonesti in Cantemir district, the village of Clocusna in Ocnita district, and the village of Popestii de Jos in Drochia district.

The Central Electoral Commission states that voters who, for health reasons or other valid reasons, are unable to come to the polling station can request mobile ballot box voting from the electoral office. Written requests can be submitted until 14:00 on the day before the vote. On election day, requests are approved by the electoral office until 14:00, but only with the presentation of a medical certificate.

A total of 38 candidates are registered for the local elections on November 17. Among the candidates are 11 women and 27 men. Ten candidates are running independently, while 28 have been nominated by political parties.

According to the Electoral Code, a mayoral candidate is considered elected if they receive more than half of the valid votes cast by participating voters. If no candidate secures more than half of the valid votes, a runoff election is held within two weeks between the two candidates with the highest number of votes in the first round.

On election day, campaigning is prohibited. Electoral activities, distribution of campaign materials, and the appearance of candidates on television or radio programs are all restricted to ensure a fair voting process.
