Seven candidates for the post of member of the Supervisory Board of the national public broadcaster “Teleraradio-Moldova” (TRM) will be proposed to Parliament for confirmation by the responsible commission that examined the aspirants. These are: Arcadie Gherasim, Sergiu Stanciu, Corneliu Popovici, Aurelian Dănilă, Loretta Handrabura, Cristian Jardan and Irina Matsenco, IPN reports.

Fourteen persons applied to take part in the contest. Two of them withdrew their candidacies so that the Parliament’s commission on culture, education, research, youth, sport and the media interviewed 12 aspirants for member of the Supervisory Board of TRM.

Journalist Arcadie Gherasim and former deputy minister of youth and sport Sergiu Stanciu were suggested by the parliamentary majority. Ex-presidential adviser Corneliu Popovici, former minister of education, culture and research, was proposed by the opposition. Academician Aurelian Danilă, former deputy minister of education Loretta Handrabura and journalists Cristian Jardan and Irina Matsenco were put forward by civil society organizations.

In accordance with the law, the Supervisory Board of “Teleraradio-Moldova” consists of seven members. Three of them are nominated by the parliamentary groups, while four by SCOs. The Board members are confirmed for one six-year term by a majority of votes of MP.

Recently, the PAS parliamentary majority adopted a bill to transfer the national public broadcaster “Teleradio-Moldova” back under the Parliament’s supervision, as it was until 2019. The opposition criticized the decision, saying the parliamentary majority aims to subjugate the public broadcaster.

The terms in office of all the members of the Supervisory Board of TRM and of the company’s director general and deputy directors general ended when the current law took effect.
