A serious accident occurred on the aqueduct situated on 31 August St, at the intersection with Ciuflea St, in Chisinau in the morning of August 10. SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” said the specialists intervened swiftly to remedy the situation, IPN reports.
In a press release, the company says the polyethylene pipe that is 250 mm in diameter and is over 15 years old burst. The water supply was halted and tanks with drinking water supplied water to consumers.
The water supplier assures that the intervention teams will do their best to finish the works as soon as possible so that the supply of water could be resumed.
According to “Apa-Canal Chisinau”, 15 km of water pipes were replaced last year with the company’s funds in a move to ameliorate the situation. The water pipes are over 70% worn-out. Major works are to be carried out through the Priority Investment Program that is financed by the EBRD and EIB within which 200 km of pipes are to be repaired. The project is being implemented, but the financing hasn’t been yet disbursed because the condition to adjust the water supply and sewerage tariffs hasn’t been met.
