The new government wants to further capture a number of state institutions, such as the Constitutional Court, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Central Election Commission, so as to take revenge on the Democratic Party. Even if the PDM is in the opposition, it is yet a very powerful opponent and the new government does not need such a player on the political arena, Democratic MP Sergiu Sîrbu was quoted by IPN as saying in a program on Vocea Basarabiei TV channel.

“We regret this. We collect facts and will inform the international community. I hope they will react as until now we didn’t see such a reaction,” stated the MP.

Former MP Ștefan Secăreanu noted the transfer of the Security and Intelligence Service under the management of the President is alarming and something like this does not mean democracy. “I thought those who were in the opposition, those from ACUM who consider themselves pro-European, will not get into this trap called revenge that is practiced by groups that pursue particular interests. This is serious,” he stated, adding Moldovan society is witnessing particular struggles between different interest groups.

Political commentator Corneliu Ciurea said the new government came to power not to govern. The only goal of their hostile attitude to the PDM is to destroy this party, not to govern. They aim to take revenge as swiftly as possible. “The so-called justice of the new government is to maximally accelerate so as to achieve the wanted results in the nearest future – to eliminate those who are suspected of being somehow under the influence of the PDM,” stated Corneliu Ciurea.
