The resolution on the Republic of Moldova adopted recently by the European Parliament is against not the government, but the people and this is regrettable, Democratic MP stated in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
Sergiu Sirbu said for the ruling party nothing essential changes, but it learned some things from this experience. “We will be much more attentive, but this resolution will not make us deviate from the European, Western course. Those so important reforms will not be stooped, but will be only prioritized for the people,” he stated.
Journalist Constantin Olteanu said it would have been much serious if the International Monetary Fund had adopted such a decision for Moldova. “This would have meant the end of many of the relationships we have with all the donors, with all the development partners. This would have meant rather serious consequences for the Republic of Moldova,” he stated.
According to the journalist, if the European Parliament had asked for a fresher opinion from those whom it blames for the created situation, the denouement would have been different. “The presence of representatives of the Moldovan government at the European Parliament or on the eve would have probably brought more voices different from those that spoke at the session,” noted Constantin Olteanu. He believes in such a case the discussions on the resolution, if these existed, would have had another tone and more concrete terms would have been used.
On July 5, the European Parliament adopted a resolution that calls on the European Commission to suspend any foreseen payments of macro-financial assistance and budget support to Moldova. The MEPs consider any decision on the future payments should be taken only after the planned parliamentary elections and on condition that these are held in accordance with the internationally recognized standards and are assessed by specialized intentional organizations.
