The 14th Army should remain in Transnistria and should be consolidated because Russia represents a clear guarantee that Moldova will survive as a state and the Moldovan people will not be Romanized. Russia, not the EU or Romania, can create normal conditions for the socioeconomic development of the Republic of Moldova, deputy chairman of the Party “Moldova’s Patriots” Sergiu Perciun stated in the public debate ”Request to withdraw Russian troops from Moldova’s territory: legality, advantages, risks and dangers” that was organized by IPN.

Sergiu Perciun said the consolidated will of a people is above any law, including the Constitution. “What does the 14th Army mean for us, the Moldovans? It is a guarantee that we will no longer go back to the Romanian area,” he stated, noting that “aggressive Romanization” is witnessed in society.

According to Perciun, the Transnistrian conflict was caused by the Government of Moldova. “The Government should apologize for the foolish mistake it made because one resorts to arms when this does not know how to govern. This is what Chisinau did in 1992 and those who fought were used as cannon fodder,” he stated.

The deputy chairman of “Moldova’s Patriots” considers Moldova made a big mistake when it internationalized the Transnistrian dispute. “When the problem in southeastern Ukraine is solved and the closer Russia is to the Nistru, the faster the Transnistrian conflict will be settled. This problem will be solved only by Moldova, Tiraspol and Russia,” reiterated Sergiu Perciun.

The public debate ”Request to withdraw Russian troops from Moldova’s territory: legality, advantages, risks and dangers” was the 76th installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates” that are staged with support from the Hanns Seidel Foundation of Germany.
