Sergiu Mocanu: I was Vladimir Voronin's adviser. Does he really think I'm that dangerous?

The Actiunea Populara/People's Action/ Movement accuses the government of initiating a campaign of intimidation against its own citizens in order to obstruct their right to freedom of assembly and discourage them from joining other parties than the Communists' one, stated Sergiu Mocanu, the leader of the movement, on Wednesday, July 2, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mocanu referred in particular to a case that occurred last Friday when more than 40 police officers, most of them dressed in civilian clothing, came to the village of Cornesti in Ungheni district, where they interrogated about 200 people. The police allegedly picked on them because they joined the People's Action Movement half a year ago. Those who refused to sign the police protocols, issued right in the middle of the people's households, were threatened and even summoned to appear before the prosecutor's office without being told in what capacity they were being summoned. Mocanu described those acts by the law enforcement bodies as a direct order from the President's Office, which, in particular, targeted Mocanu himself. “I was Vladimir Voronin's adviser. But does he really think I'm that dangerous, especially as I don't attempt on his traditional voters? I believe this is a dictator-like attempt not to allow a former subordinate of his to make a name for himself, to go into politics. ”, declared Mocanu. “How can President Voronin possibly be accepted in Europe, in civilized companies, since, under his rule, barbarity is thriving in Moldova?” The police officers, who acted by order of Ungheni's sheriff, Lt.Col. Ghenadie Cracan, carried with them minutely prepared dossiers containing detailed information about each of the interrogated persons. These were used as tools of psychological pressure, an intimidation trick inherited from the KGB, said Daniela Bodrug, the vice president of the Movement. According to her, the People's Action Movement has already sent a letter to the diplomatic missions and representatives of international organizations accredited in Chisinau informing them about the democratic backsliding and violation of fundamental human rights in the Republic of Moldova. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Commissar Ghenadie Cracan refused to comment on the case.
