The leader of “Antimafie” Movement Sergiu Mocanu went up 79 spots in the January rankings of the most influential politicians, being the seventh. Experts of the Political Consultancy and Strategic Researches Center “Politicon”, who compiled the rankings, said this is the highest jump of Sergiu Mocanu and is due to the Domneasca Forest case, which he made public at the start of last month, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference on February 4, “Politicon” deputy head Ion Tabirta said that Prime Minister Vlad Filat continues to top the rankings. He is followed by Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, and the head of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Valeriu Strelet, who climbed seven positions. Speaker Marian Lupu comes fifth, as earlier, while Minister of the Interior Dorin Recean ranks sixth, up from the 10th spot. ”Politicon” head Anatol Taranu said that Sergiu Mocanu’s climb of 79 positions was a great surprise. “In the administrative hierarchy, Sergiu Mocanu holds no post, but his culminant jump is due to the fact that a number of political events in January followed the news conference where he revealed details about the Domneasca Forest incident, which shook the Moldovan political arena,” he stated. He predicted that in the future Sergiu Mocanu will go down, but he may maintain his position for a period, or even climb. However, he will have to act correspondingly for this to happen. The Liberal Party head Mihai Ghimpu fell one spot to the eighth. Head of state Nicolae Timofti and the Communist Party chairman Vladimir Voronin scored the same number of points, ranking ninth and tenth respectively. Valeriu Zubco, who resigned from the post of prosecutor general after the hunting incident in the Domneasca Forest, comes 71st. The rankings were compiled with the assistance of 41 experts who assessed the politicians’ influence on the taken decisions, visibility in the mass media, public popularity, and political prospects.
