Minister of Justice Sergiu Litvinenco said that on May 9, when the Republic of Moldova celebrates Europe Day and Victory Day, all those who will wear the ribbon of Saint George will be fined. According to the official, the law does not cover the persons who wear this ribbon with medals or military orders. In accordance with the law promulgated by President Maia Sandu, there will be fined all those who spread the symbols of the Russian maturity aggression – the black-and-orange ribbon and the letters V and Z that are used as distinctive signs of the Russian army in the war against Ukraine, IPN reports.
Under the law that was adopted by Parliament and was promulgated on Tuesday by President Maia Sandu, the making, sale and distribution of signs and symbols used in the context of military actions, war crimes and crimes against humanity will be penalized. The minister of justice said the police will fine all those who disobey the law.
“The penalties do not apply to persons who use this ribbon with medals or orders received for actions in World War II. In other cases, the persons will be fined, including Igor Dodon if he wears this ribbon, without any exception. Those who will break this law, including state and Parliament officials, will be penalized in accordance with the law,” Sergiu Litvinenco stated in the talk show “Freedom with Dorin Galben” on TV8 channel.
The ignoring of the ban and promotion of the symbols of the Russian military aggression will be punished with fines of 4,500 lei to 9,000 lei in the case of private individuals and of up to 30,000 lei in the case of legal entities or persons with public posts.
“The police are the ascertaining agent. A fine will be imposed later, following documentation. Missis President Sandu clearly explained the reasons for which she promulgated this law and I consider these reasons are sensible, logical for any reasonable person in the Republic of Moldova who wants to live in peace and wants a society that does not tolerate ear,” said Sergiu Litvinenco.
On April 19, President Maia Sandu promulgated the law that bans the use of symbols that promote military aggression and the new provisions will take effect when they are published in the Official Gazette. President Sandu said the given amendments to the Moldovan legislation do not affect the historical memory and the people will be able to further commemorate the heroes of World War II.
