The government must get involved in selecting the candidate for the position of Prosecutor General because currently the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) has no credibility. The statement belongs to Sergiu Litvinenco, MP of the PAS group, ACUM bloc and was made on "Politics of Natalia Morari" programme, TV8. According to him, now CSP is in no position to promote credible prosecutors, IPN reports.

"I am sure that by changing the selection procedure we will have an independent person in the position of Prosecutor General," said Sergiu Litvinenco. According to him, the commission appointed by the Ministry of Justice to propose candidates will be apolitical.

At the same time, Sergiu Litvinenco says that the next prosecutor will have two main tasks to perform: to restore the sense of justice in the society by initiating proceedings against the people who have committed crimes and to reform the Prosecutor's offices, so that the prosecutors could feel independent in their activity.

The MP of the Democratic Party Vladimir Cebotari argues that "if the current government succeeded in anything, it was nepotism – appointing to different positions of nephews, relatives, cousins". According to him, the same thing will happen with the appointment of the new Prosecutor General. "Therefore, I do not know what good results we could expect," said the MP. According to him, "the only achievement of the current government is the lowering of the electoral threshold, otherwise only failures."

The MP of the Socialist Party Vasile Bolea expects that at present the National Anticorruption Center, the Prosecutor's Office and other relevant institutions will deal with the investigation of publicly revealed high profile schemes. "The Parliament or the MPs cannot handle this. There are bodies that have the respective powers and leverage”, argues Vasile Bolea. The parliamentarian says he would appreciate the activity of the new ruling coalition as satisfactory.

The changing of the mechanism for Prosecutor General appointment was voted by the Parliament at the sitting on Monday, September 16. Thus, the appointment of prosecutor general by the president of the country will be made at the proposal of the Superior Council of Prosecutors from the candidates proposed by a Commission set up by the Ministry of Justice.
