The contest for Prosecutor General position initiated by the Superior Council of Prosecutors has been stopped upon the entry into force, on September 21, of the Prosecutor's Office Law. The announcement was made on the personal Facebook page of Sergiu Litvinenco, chairman of the Parliamentary Legal Committee for Appointments and Immunities, IPN reports.

"The Law amending the Prosecutor's Office Law was published in Monitorul Official (Official Gazette) of the Republic of Moldova. This means that the law comes into force today. This means that from now on the contest initiated by the CSP has been stopped”, wrote Segiu Litvinenco, referring to the contest previously announced by the CSP, according to old legal provisions, for the position of Prosecutor General, in which a number of candidates have been registered.

The MP mentions that from now on "the big challenge concerning establishing the pre-selection commission composition, carrying out the actual pre-selection and identifying as a result of it at least two candidates worthy of the position of Prosecutor General of the Republic of Moldova will start".

According to the law amendments, the appointment of the Prosecutor General by the President of the country shall be made at the proposal of the Superior Council of Prosecutors from the candidates proposed by the Commission set up by the Ministry of Justice.
