The special commission for selecting a candidate for the post of governor of the National Bank of Moldova chose Sergiu Cioclea as a suitable candidate and will present him to Parliament for confirmation, Head of Parliament Andrian Candu said after meeting with the members of the commission, IPN reports.

“I’m glad that the second attempt involved applicants from the country and abroad. The commission took the decision based on the accumulated score. Sergiu Cioclea had the highest score. I will ask my colleagues to contact him and tomorrow morning probably I will have a discussion with him before launching the procedures for fielding the candidate. I will also familiarize myself with the Commission’s report,” stated Andrian Candu.

The Speaker noted a governor should be appointed as soon as possible, but things should not be done in a hurry and they do not want speculations about a rushed appointment.

To become governor, Sergiu Cioclea needs to obtain the votes of 51 MPs.

Sergiu Cioclea is a national of Moldova, Romania and France. He worked for over 17 years in the financial-banking sector. The last job he held in 2008-2015 was that of managing director, head of the Corporate Finance Department of BNP Paribas ZAO based in Moscow.
