Independent candidate Sergiu Banari failed in his intention to create an anti-Communist coalition till the elections. Only two parties – the Conservative Party and United Moldova – gave positive answers to the appeal of the municipal councilor from Balti. The proposal was launched a week ago to all democratic parties, except for the PPCD and the PSD, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I have to regretfully find that the leaders of political parties who declare themselves as anti-Communist are not ready yet to get rid of their own ambitions to show clearly the voters that, along with getting their mandates of MPs, they will prove their political will and won’t repeat the shameful vote and the betrayal act of April 4, 2005,” Sergiu Banari stated on Thursday, March 5, at a news conference. The independent candidate says he was surprised at the negative response of the democratic parties which say they fight against the Communists, and also at the positive response from those parties that are described as being political projects created in order to rip away votes of the democratic parties. Banari avoided explaining the reasons for which most political parties refused to form the coalition. He also stated his hope that they would change their mind. “There is some time left till the elections. If this proposal was regarded with reserves only because it was launched by an independent candidate, I make an appeal to non-governmental organizations or to opposition parties to overtake this initiative and try to create an anti-Communist front,” Banari said. If the democratic parties commit not to cooperate with the PCRM, then most voters which don’t go to cast their vote because of their mistrust in political forces, would regain their trust, Banari believes. Many political leaders look skeptically at the proposal of the Balti municipal councilor. “Banari wanted only to create an image by means of this initiative and to denigrate the parties. It would be better if Sergiu Banari invited political parties to a dialogue, and not to make cheap populism,” ex-president of PNL Vitalia Pavlicenco, the second on the list of candidates of the the European Action Movement, stated. PSD leader Dumitru Braghis said that Banari is not a credible person, and that is the reason why political parties trust neither the initiative launched by him. Sergiu Banari was registered by the CEC as an electoral competitor on Wednesday, February 25.
