Serghei Marghiev reaches finals at World Universiade

Hammer-thrower Serghei Marghiev has qualified for the final round of the World Universiade. The 24 year old had the best result in the qualifying round – 72.59 meters, IPN reports.

The finals are scheduled for August 24. Moldova’s other athletes still competing in Taipei are Andrian Mardare and Dimitriana Surdu. In 2011, Serghei Marghiev’s sister, Zalina, won the gold medal at the Universiade in China.

In the weightlifting tournament, Ecaterina Cilcic took the 7th place in group B of the 69 kg category, with a result of 180 kg. Wan-Ting Hung, representing the host nation, became champion with a result of 227 kg.
