As crime against the inhabitants of the capital and next generations, the ex-mayor of the capital, Serafim Urecheanu, has qualified the poplar cutting.
The ex-mayor of the capital said that “aberrant ides of Ursu vwill transform the city into a desert”, especially by the fact that the news planted species will make shadows and clean the air only in some years.”
Serafim Urecheanu considers that the interim mayor misleads the citizens when he talks about the existence in Chisinau of about 10,000 poplars, when there are in fact about 30,000. “All these trees shall be cut by Ursu at the order of the country’s leadership, without taking into consideration that many generations put their heart to transform the capital into a green city,” Serafim Urecheanu said. He is disturbed by the fact that on Wednesday there were cut trees on one of the most polluted streets of the capital – street Uzinelor. He also was very surprised by the silence and indifference of citizens, who previously showed very dissatisfied with cutting of 3-4 trees.
Regarding the statements of Vasile Ursu regarding the planting this spring of 3-4 years trees, he noted that beside the fact that they are very expensive, they need a special treatment to get roots, while young trees get roots easier and do not need special care. Urecheanu considers motivated only the re-planting of damaged, sick and dry trees of the roads. Previously, there were planted about 200,000 tries and bushes in the capital, he underlined.
Interim mayor Vasile Ursu required to Green Areas Association to clear about 10,000 poplars of the capital, arguing this by the fact that because of the down of these trees it is impossible to breathe in summer.
On the other hand, the chairman of the territorial Ecologist Movement Chisinau, Vladimir Garaba, mentioned: “If we get away from the oxygen, old poplars should be replaced but not destroyed, as the poplar exhales 7 times more oxygen than a pine, issuing about 2,000 grams of oxygen and satisfying in one day only the necessary of oxygen for about 200 persons.”
Another aspect of purifying the air, he noted, regards the polluting substances stable in the soil. Therefore, toxic metallic ions and chemical substances of the type of dioxins are accumulated in the wooden tissue of poplars, remaining inactive for dozens of years.
In plus, the poplar is very efficient in getting freatic water on surface and the presence of wells in Chisinau speak in favour of the trees, Vladimir Garaba said, adding that there is no proof proving the that down is allergic.
