The candidate of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) for the post of mayor general of Chisinau Serafim Urechean on May 21 entered the electoral race alongside the party’s team of candidates for posts on the Chisinau Municipal Council, IPN reports.

The event held in the square of “God’s Birth” Cathedral in Chisinau involved the leader of the PLDM Vlad Filat, who said that Serafim Urechean coped with all the struggles in time and didn’t cooperate with the Communists. “The municipality of Chisinau, the country’s capital does not need verbal struggles or endless statement. Chisinau municipality needs decisions and actions and people who are able to act,” stated Vlad Filat.

Serafim Urechean said he decided to start his election campaign in this place because 20 years ago he asked for the blessing of His Holiness Vladimir for restoring the Cathedral, which was in a deplorable state. When he was a mayor, there were built trolleybus lines and roads and opened nursery schools, libraries and theaters. Now he aims to deal with the chaos in the city and with a number of social problems, such as the lack of places in nurseries, the destruction of the green areas and the unauthorized parking places.

Among the candidates for the posts of Chisinau councilor are suspended Minister of the Environment Sergiu Palihovici, former deputy mayor of Chisinau Mihail Furtuna and the members of the previous Chisinau Council Ghenadie Dumanschi, Ghenadie Ivashchenko, and Boris Volosatyi.

Serafim Urechean is the president of the Audit Office. In 1994–2005, he held the post of mayor general of Chisinau, while in 2009-2010 was First Deputy Head of Parliament.
