The Liberal Democratic Party’s candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau Serafim Urechean considers the problem of waste storage near Purcel Mine can be solved by building a waste processing plant. In a news conference held near Purcel Mine that is located not far from Bubuieci commune, Serafim Urechean said he will halt the transportation of garbage to this area immediately after the elections, IPN reports.
Serafim Urechean noted that this clay quarry that in the past was an example of cleanness became an ‘ecological bomb’ that can have serious repercussions. This disaster is the result of the inactivity, incompetence and unwillingness of the authorities to solve the problem.
The candidate considers the project with the Germans should be resumed and that waste processing plant should be built so as to process the 6 million tonnes of waste stored near Purcel Mine.
Urechean said that within at most a month, the storing of waste near this mine will be stopped and the garbage will be taken to Tantareni, where there is an authorized waste dump that has a capacity of up to 18 million tonnes. Only negotiations should be held with the locals in this regard.
