The young man who shot dead analyst Anatol Țăranu’s son Teodor Țăranu at the end of this June was sentenced to 13 years and four months in jail. This will serve the sentence in a closed-type prison.
Prosecutor Sergiu Zamă has told IPN that the court obliged the culprit to pay 165,000 lei in respect of pecuniary damage and €300,000 in respect of non-pecuniary damage to the victim’s family.
Attending the hearing, Anatol Țăranu told the press he is convinced that the defendant’s lawyers will challenge the sentence in the Appeals Court. The judges didn’t answer the main question – what were the reasons behind the murder. “I suspect it wasn’t the culprit’s justification that he actually does not understand what happened. It happened a thing that has been typical of this area between the Prut and the Nistru for 200 years,” stated the analyst.
The 32-year-old defendant wasn’t present in the courtroom and the defense said he has such a right.
Teodor Țăranu, 30, was shot dead in an apartment in Buiucani district of Chisinau on June 30 this year. The pistol that was held legally by the suspect was found at the scene. The police said the victim was shot as a result of a conflict between the two young men who were both inebriated.
