Senior police officer arrested for passive corruption

A division head of the Tarclia Police Inspectorate was arrested by officers of the National Anticorruption Center on suspicion of passive corruption. According to the denouncer, the police officer asked for €1,100 for not taking legal action against a person caught driving under the influence of alcohol, IPN reports.

The National Anticorruption Center said the €1,100 was to be transmitted to employees of the Taraclia District Prosecutor’s Office. The lieutenant – colonel was caught in the act of taking the money.

The suspect was placed under arrest for 72 hours. He faces 5 to 10 years in jail and a fine of 120,000 to 160,000 lei and can also be banned from holding particular public posts and performing particular activities for a period of 7 to 10 years.
