The victory scored by Irina Rîngaci and Iulia Leorda, who became champion and, respectively, vice champion, is a big success in the history of the Moldovan sport and is due to these strong and courageous young women. In a congratulatory message, President Maia Sandu said the two athletes showed that the impossible is possible by work, ambition and dedication, IPN reports.
“Irina Rîngaci, the 20-year-old athlete from Leova, made our country proud, winning in a bitter fight the first gold medal in the history of women’s freestyle wrestling in Moldova among seniors. Her mate Iulia Leorda also climbed on to the winner’s rostrum, winning silver,” Maia Sandu posted on Facebook.
“Congratulations to the champions, congratulations to coaches Andrei Chiperi, Petru Chiperi and Anatol Guidea and congratulations to the parents, who supported them!”.
Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, at the start of the plenary suiting of Parliament, said that had a fantastic season, winning four supreme titles during a year: at the Youth and Seniors European Championships. Irina Rîngaci became the first wrestler in Moldova who became world champion. In the final of the 65 kg weight class, Andrei Chiperi’s pupil beat Japan’s Miwa Morikawa. In Oslo, Irina Rîngaci also defeated Germany’s Eyleen Sewina, Sweden’s Malin Mattsson and Mimi Hristova of Bulgaria. Earlier this year, she also won the title of European champion. Another Moldovan wrestler, Iulia Leorda, became world vice champion. In the final of the 53 kg class, she lost to Akari Fujinami of Japan. Earlier, Iulia won against Assylzat Sagymbay of Kazakhstan, Samantha Leigh Stewarr of Canada and Khrystyna Bereza of Ukraine.
