Senior administration offers condolences in connection with SMURD helicopter crash

The senior state officials expressed their condolences to the relatives and families of the SMURD team members who lost their lives in an accident near Haragas village of Cahul district this afternoon. All the four crew members died, IPN reports.

President Nicolae Timofti expressed his compassion for the families of the SMURD team members, saying it is a sad moment for the people from both sides of the Prut River and for him personally.

On a social networking site, Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu wrote that Moldova is near Romania in these hard moments. “The SMURD doctors deserve high consideration and our respect for their sacrifice and devotion shown daily! We must show now, more than ever, solidarity, competence, involvement and faith,” he wrote.

In a telephone discussion with his Romanian counterpart Dacian Ciolos, Prime Minster Pavel Filip offered his condolences to the families and relatives of the victims of the accident. He assured the Romanian official of all the support needed in such cases.

The Premier ordered constituting a commission for determining the causes of the SMURD helicopter crash and summoned the officials in charge to coordinate the subsequent investigation measures.

In a press briefing, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania said there were the pilot, copilot, a doctor and a medical assistant on board. “The EC135 aircraft, registration number 347, was made in August 2014. This was last examined in February 2016. The pilot had experience, 4,181 hours of flight, while the copilot – 1,480 hours. The doctor had a five-year experience of work on the helicopter, while the assistant – 11 years,” said the Ministry’s spokeswoman Monica Dajbog.

In Bucharest, it was decided that all the aircraft of 135 type will not take off.
