Sellers expect rise in meat prices

Pork and beef at the markets in Chisinau are sold for 65 lei per kilogram, as last week, but sellers anticipate that the meat prices will rise as it usually happens after two weeks of fasting and before the winter holidays, IPN reports.

Tomatoes, most of which are imported, can be bought for 25 lei/kg and up. Cucumbers are sold for 35 lei/kg, as a week ago. Moldovan bell peppers are sold for 25 lei/kg, while imported peppers for 50 lei/kg, as last week.

Potatoes, onions, carrots and beetroots sell for the old price of 5 - 6 lei/kg. The cabbage is sold for 3 - 4 lei/kg, as earlier. Greens became more expensive. A bunch of parsley, dill or green onion tops is sold for 4 – 5 lei, as opposed to 3 lei last week. A kilogram of pumpkin costs 5 lei.

Ewe milk cheese costs 85 lei/kg as last week, cow milk cheese - 40 lei/kg, while sour cream – 35 lei/kg. Ten hen eggs cost 17 lei, as earlier. Lamb is sold for 130 lei/kg. Dried plums can be bought for 40 to 50 lei/kg. A kilogram of pickled tomatoes is sold for 20 lei, of pickled cucumbers for 15 lei, of pickled cabbage for 15 lei, while of pickled watermelon for 50 de lei.

A kilogram of carp sells for 55 lei, while of crucian fish for 30 lei and up, as last week. Shrimps cost 128 lei/kg, perch - over 80 lei/kg, squids - 75 lei/kg, while mackerel - 45 lei/kg.

Grapes and pears are sold for 12 lei on average. A kilogram of apples costs 7-8 lei. Bananas can be bought for minimum 25 lei/kg, while pomegranates for 34 lei/kg.
