A selection of 60 caricatures from the seventh international caricature exhibition of Berlin was displayed at the National Museum of Arts of Moldova within an exhibit entitled “Garbage”. The 60 works that represent the ecological state worldwide were brought to Chisinau by Moldovan caricaturist Valeriu Curtu, who is a co-organizer of the Berlin exhibition, IPN reports.

In the opening of the exhibition, Valeriu Curtu said he decided to bring a part of the caricatures to Chisinau because these represent situations typical for Moldova too. The caricatures are presented under three subthemes: “Coffee in a package”, “Plastic sacks” and “Waste separation”. The Berlin exhibition included over 1,000 works made by more than 400 caricaturists from 70 countries.

Director of the National Museum of Arts Tudor Zbarnea said Valeriu Curtu is an exceptional caricaturist who is famous worldwide. He noted he accepted to mount the exhibition at the Museum in order to draw attention to the current state of ecology in Moldova and the whole world.

Attending the event, Florian Seitz, deputy head of the Embassy of Germany in Moldova, said that the exhibition staged in Berlin annually centers on relevant social and political themes. The theme of waste, of ecology is topical for all the states. “Through this type of arts, the caricature, we try to draw attention to problems with big relevance,” stated Florian Seitz.

Gennady Jalba, member of the Union of Plastic Artists, said the given exhibition has a special meaning. “It is very interesting to follow the expressiveness of this theme from country to country. It is hard to criticize and to simultaneously warn the spectator and everyone that we are in a danger in terms of the state of ecology,” he stated.

The exhibition lasts from August 24 until September 10.
