The candidates for the post of ombudsperson can file applications to take part in the contest in person, by mail or email between April 1 and April 20 inclusive. The special parliamentary commission initiated the process of choosing candidates, IPN reports.
According to the Parliament’s press service, the candidates for ombudsperson must be citizens of the Republic of Moldova free from a judiciary protection measure in the form of tutelage, who have a bachelor’s diploma or its equivalent, seniority of at least 10 years, notorious activity in defense and human rights protection, an irreproachable reputation and know the official language.
Ombudswoman for children’s rights Maia Bănărescu holds the post of ombudsperson on an interim basis, until Parliament names a new ombudsperson. The post fell vacant after Mihail Cotorobai died.
