Inspectors of the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) in the first eight months of this year prohibited using seeds of autumn crops from more than 350 hectares. The seeds were to be used for reproduction, but were classed as unsuitable owing to their poor quality, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the Agency, the poor quality of seeds is due to the weather conditions that affected the fields with crops grown for their seeds. It was also established that the technology used to produce seeds was not respected.
The Agency also banned the use of seeds of spring crops for reproductive purposes on over 17 hectares of corn and 103 hectares of sunflower. The ban was imposed in the southern districts of Taraclia and Ciadir-Lunga.
Until now, the ANSA inspectors have examined over 55,000 tones of seeds stored this year, of the over 103,000 tonnes.
