The seed production this year totaled 140,000 tonnes, which is 110% of the volume needed for sowing, head of the Seed Monitoring Division of the National Food Safety Agency Dumitru Rusu told a news conference, quoted by IPN.

Dumitru Rusu said that the projected surplus of seeds may cause the prices to decrease, but not essentially. The corn, sunflower and soybean aren’t yet gathered. The harvest of the other crops ended or is close to an end.

The Agency’s deputy head Petru Bodarev said the crops of wheat, barley, rye and rape are high. “About 40 companies that grow, prepare and monitor the seeds of a high quality are ready to offer seeds for sale,” he stated.

The local inspectors are involved in the seed examination and certification process. In the first eight months of this year, they banned the use of seeds of autumn crops on over 350 hectares, which is 1% of the total area.
