Parliament’s Commission on National Security and Public Order each day receives documents confirming that multiple smuggling schemes have been at work in the last few years, especially during the PDM government; many public officials were, or are still, implicated, stated Commission chair Chiril Moțpan.

Briefing journalists on the Commission’s work, Chiril Moțpan said in these schemes the criminal interests of some groups have intertwined with the interests of officials from the Ministry of the Interior, the Customs Service and over governmental agencies. “When I called PDM a criminal party, I was spot on. All this evidence will be forwarded to the competent authorities to take action,” declared Chiril Moțpan.

The Commission chair also talked about contraband in prison, a problem which he believes the prison administrations have failed to address. On the situation in the prison system overall, Moțpan estimated that about a third of those imprisoned are innocent, as some wound up behind bars just because someone wanted to steal their businesses. The MP also accused the prison administrations of spying on inmates as they confer with their lawyers. “All these abuses must be reported to the relevant authorities so that those responsible are brought to justice.”

On wiretapping, Moțpan said it is difficult to find out an accurate number and tell how many such instances were authorized and which not, but he tends to agree with reports that their number was alarmingly high, as judicial control has been ineffective.

The Commission also examined the subject of the deported Turkish citizens. It has been agreed with the relevant agencies that by the end of the month hearings will be held to elucidate this case. “From the information received by the Commission, we found out who was involved, names, agencies, where the law was respected and where it was brutally violated,” said Moțpan.
