Video security cameras are expected to appear in the yards of medical and school institutions in Chisinau following an initiative put forward by the mayor general. Dorin Chirtoaca explained that such a move is needed in order to maintain public order and prevent shocking cases like the raping of pregnant women.
“The Soviet methods when guards protect the medical institutions are outdated and ineffective as we see. The video cameras will help prevent unpleasant cases when the people are attacked in the street or in budget-funded institutions,” Dorin Chirtoaca said in Monday’s ordinary meeting of City Hall officials.
The mayor instructed the municipal police and the responsible division to submit proposals how to better ensure public order in schools, polyclinics and hospitals. “We must choose the main arteries where video cameras should be installed next year,” he said.
On July 11, a pregnant woman was raped in the yard of the Chisinau Maternity Hospital No. 2. Municipal police chief Silviu Musuc said they have a suspect in this case, but he cannot provide details.
